OUR Eurovision winners are on the way back to celebrate the wonder years when we couldn’t stop winning.
Ireland‘s record seven victories at the Eurovision Song Contestare to be remembered this year with a national tour featuring winners Johnny Logan (1980 and 1987), Dana (1970), Linda Martin (1992), ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Kids’ Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan (1994) and Niamh Kavanagh (1993).
The singers will take part in a 12-date tour around Ireland in October, culminating in a concert at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre.
Music promoter Conor Mulhall said he got the idea for the Irish Eurovision winners’ tour while watching Jedward perform at the annual song contest in Dusseldorf last year.
“Marty Whelan was doing the commentary and he remarked that Ireland still holds the record for the most wins at Eurovision. That set me off thinking how amazing it would be if we could get all the winners together for a tour,” Mr Mulhall said yesterday.
“They are all really busy but I knew when I got Johnny Logan on board it was going to happen. We couldn’t have done it without Johnny.”
Winner in 1996, Eimear Quinn, has been forced to pull out as she is pregnant, but she may take part in future dates, such is the interest in the Eurovision winners tour.
Best Of Eurovision goes on sale nationwide on Friday the 25th of May. Tickets available from Ticket Master outlets and local box offices.
